After the Bombing ~ Clare Morrall Ma Café Society 13 Comments I normally associate Clare Morrall’s books with my home town of Birmingham, so it was a surprise on opening her latest novel to discover that it is set in Exeter. Much of the book reminded me of The Night Watch by Sarah Waters, but I think After the Bombing is the better of the two as its simpler structure left the characters to shine. Overall, this is a wonderful piece of story-telling and is proof that Clare Morrall is capable of turning the simplest of stories into an emotional delight. Highly. Clare Morrall (born , Exeter) is an English novelist. She has lived mainly in Birmingham, where she worked for many years as a music teacher. Her debut novel, Astonishing Splashes of Colour, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. She has subsequently had seven novels published.
